Sustainable Firewood

Dry, Clean, and high quality firewood in Oregon.

If you’ve ever visited LBCF (and you should!) then you know we have no shortage of trees. Which means, we have no shortage of firewood! The farm is populated by dense varieties of alder, birch, pine, and evergreen trees. In fact, it’s our abundance of trees that makes our farm so special.

Here at LCBF, we source all of our firewood solely from Alder trees for many reasons which we explain detail below. We heat our home, cook our food, and make memories around our campfire with this firewood. Alder is the perfect firewood for Oregon’s climate and lifestyle, here’s why.

Why buy Alder?

Perfect for a Wood Stove

Here at the farm, we heat our own home using the same firewood we give to you. We love burning alder not only because it’s a hardwood and burns hot, but the aroma that fills our home with a sweet scent. Alder is the perfect wood for burning along our temperate Oregon Coast climate. Not to hot, and cost efficient.

Beneficial to Everyone

Here on the Oregon Coast, our climate is perfect for growing Red Alder, and is sometimes referred to as a ‘weed tree’. Alders grow extremely quickly making them a popular wood choice, but they are also vital to our ecosystem. An Alders roots system provides many uses including stabilizing saturated ground, preventing erosion, and their root nodules help replenish Nitrogen concentrations in the soil.

Excellent for Smoking

If you’re into BBQing, then you may know that alder is among the most popular wood used for smoking and flavoring meat. Most commonly used for Salmon, Alder smoke delivers a sweet smell and flavor, without running a costly bill. Properly seasoned Alder leaves behind little ash, but makes perfect coals. Alder is also commonly used for charcoal making!

Sustainable

If there’s one thing all of us here at the farm agree on, it’s the importance of sustainability. We never felt right buying firewood from other suppliers who often clear cut land to produce product, so we decided to do it differently. On the farm we choose to only harvest mature trees that stand a threat to current structures, or to other surrounding trees as alders tend to only live 100 years. We also replant alder annually, to ensure its continued dominance.
